sleeping posture.

This is pretty random and potentially damaging to my image. Then again, what image? I am clumsy and klutzy! Nothing can be worse than that (:

Last month, my mum started the whole “I-want-to-buy-you-a-new-mattress” thing. I was pretty against it because I am a grown-up, I don’t want her to pay for my mattress! But I eventually let her buy me a new King-Koil mattress.

ANYWAY! While trying to convince myself that I am badly in need of a new mattress (which I was), I started noticing my sleeping postures.

If you google for sleeping postures, you probably come up with 6 common postures [read them here and here]. Occasionally, I will do a Fetus but that’s it! My positions are damn funny.

Position 1: At attention

This was before I got the new mattress. I will sleep on my back, facing the ceiling and have both my arms underneath my back. It’s like a soldier standing at attention but doing it lying down.

But this position has not appear since King-Koil arrived.

Position 2: Ballerina

Right arm above my head, right leg bend. Left arm on hip, left leg straight. Maybe a picture will help.

And the best part is…My bedframe is something like this but instead of the wooden bars, I have metal bars. So, my right hand is usually grabbing the metal pole and I will make sure that my right arm is totally stretched out.

I tell you. When that arm is stretched, you can feel the knot on my right shoulder loosening immediately *woosh!*

Position 3: Half-spread, half- side.

I have 3 pillows – 1 big, 1 small and 1 medium (consisting of 2 small in 1 sleeve). And this position makes full use of them all.

I will lie on my right side, facing the wall. Then, I will twist my lower body such that it is facing down (i.e. butt up). Right arm will stretch out behind my back. Left arm hugging the small pillow. Right leg is straight and then left leg will be bent with the knee propped onto the medium pillow at the side of the bed.

half-spread, half-turn.

So my right arm + left leg is spread across the bed! While the left arm + right leg is attempting to keep themselves in. I say, if anyone is to perform a psychoanalysis on me, they will say I have conflicting personality. HAHAHAH!

But yes. This is my favorite position to sleep in these days.

Position 4: The flopper.

Actually, this is quite common.

Face to the side, body on belly with arms spread out and dangling over bed. I so need a queen size bed!

Position 5: The legs up!

This has to be the weirdest of them all.

There are times when I wake up in the morning to find my legs up. As in upper body lying down, but the legs are up and crossed. Like 跷脚!

I think that’s it! So what are your common sleeping postures? Or do you KNOW your sleeping postures?

Bible Prayers for Bedtime.

Raise your hand if you’re shocked that I am actually blogging something about Christianity. Heh. When I tell people that I am a Christian [or rather I believe in God], they are shocked. I guess it’s because I am not the kind who goes to church every week or openly talk about my religion.

Once and for all, I am a free-thinker but yes, I believe in God. I went to Sabbath School when I was a little girl. And even almost acted as Mary in a Christmas play once [cried my way out of it. hehehe].

ANYWAY! Enough about me! My sister is currently in-charge of the primary level of Sabbath School at our church so she bought this book with the intention of sharing it with the little kids. But me being me, I hijacked the book and started reading a few pages before I go to sleep and after waking up.

I’m sure little kids may have this problem. They don’t know what to say when they pray. When I was young, I thought just talking normally would be offensive. Sometimes, I feel like I am asking too much from God. Sometimes, I don’t know what to say and so I just skip praying and go to sleep.

And this is where the book comes in!

Here’s one example of the book –

starts off with a story.

ends with a simple prayer.

I like how simple the whole book is. There’s 4 colors representing 4 different ‘companions’. The words are easy to understand and straightforward. It also helps to increase the child’s understanding of stories in the bible!

PLUS!! By reading the stories and prayers, you will find that there are many things to be thankful for. Things that we have grown used to and have taken for granted. It also serve as a reminder that God is always near (:

Yups! I am so pleased with the book that I bought the other one!

devotions for bedtime.

There’s one more series that I am eyeing!

And I just found out they have this!

Heeee. Maybe I should ask my sister to buy them all! OR! Just borrow her member card. OHOH! You can buy it at any Trumpet Praise store(: Not sure where are their outlets but I got mine from the one at J8 !

Before I go, here’s another of my favorite prayer –

for the friends in my life.

Anyhoos, Happy Sabbath Day (:

the thing about trust.

i don’t know.

there are 3 kinds of people.

Type 1: Naive

How they deal with trust is funny. You don’t really have to earn it per se. They will trust you just because. The trust is almost already there once you guys have been introduced and they sense any weird vibes from you.

Their trust is free. AND hard to break.

You can stab them into back many many times but they will still trust you. Okay, they will be mad with you for awhile. But after a while, they will think that you have learnt yourself and continue to trust you.

Their motto, “Do unto others what you wants others to do to you”. Never mind that evidence has shown otherwise.

I am this kind of person.

Type 2: The Godsend.

This kind of person is delusional. Kinda. They think that it is a blessing FOR YOU that they actually trust you. That even if they have stabbed you in the back but they have told you (because they trust that you can handle it), you should bow down and thank them.

You don’t really have to work for their trust per se. But they will constantly remind you how privileged you are that you have their trust.

It’s like they are godsend. If they trust you, you should thank them and see them as God. They think that you should NEVER fault them (no matter what they do) because you have their trust.

They love to describe themselves as selfless. Tsk.

Met a few, been stabbed by a few.

Type 3: The humans.

These people. I envy them. Kinda.

They dish out the right amount of trust to strangers or acquaintance. As you get to know them, you earn their trust. But they are still smart.

It’s like an ATM. You earn their trust, but if something bad happens, DEDUCT! Repeat offenders = harder to earn back their trust.

I can never be like them. Too soft-hearted for my own good. Once I forget the hurt that has been done to me, I will forgive the person. It’s like forgive and forget to the extreme 😦 And I think this lousy habit of mine is causing everyone around me a huge headache.

Seeing me heading straight for destruction. Sigh.

Anyways, this post popped into my mind while I was watching my Taiwan drama. HAHAHAH!

Too naive for my own good.

Samsung NX10 (:

Being the semi-Samsung fangirl that I am, when I heard about the Samsung NX10, I bugged DK about it and VIOLA! I have a review set to play with! YIPEEEE~

I am going to skip the technical mojo because I am sure you can find those at dpreview, [be prepared for a long read!] or just google/youtube it! 😀 Plus, my technical mojo knowledge is not that great. BUT!!! One thing you should note that the NX10 is mirrorless and uses an all Live View system [which means electronic viewfinder!] (:

I don’t really know how to go about talking about this camera but!

Summary: NX10 is like  my D300 +  my super ancient Panasonice Lumix LS1 ! Which is a good thing! Sometimes, I don’t want to lug around D300 but I want the flexibility that LS1 cannot provide!(:

Who is it for?: Well, if you think you are sick of a PNS but not ready for a DSLR, this is for you! 😀

Some stuff I really like!

1. Sensor to switch between LV and Electronic Viewfinder

This needs a little getting used to! Initially, you’ll feel like an idiot putting the camera to your eye when the screen is still on but once you get used to it, you’ll love it! Somethings (like Macro shots)  are better shot using Live View but some stuff are better shot while looking through the viewfinder. It could be a hassle to have to switch between the 2! With this function, you don’t have to!

It’s pretty funny to see DSLR users’ reaction when they are still getting used to this function. My brother actually shrank back and went, “..Eeeya! You are not tricking me right?” HAHAHAHA!

One thing though, the sensor can be a tad too sensitive sometimes.

2. Fast focusing speed

Like really! Doing panning shot with NX10 is a breeze!

We were trying out jump shots yesterday in the middle of the road and NX10 focused really quickly! Will post the photos up when DK uploads them.

3. Face Retouching

Discovered this by accident. We were all waiting for the sun to set at Punggol beach when we decide to take some self-shot with NX10! That was when we discovered that even when you are NOT in portrait mode, it touches up your face nicely! Every single face.

group shot!

And when you’re in Beauty Mode (under Scene mode), you can choose the level you want the camera to touch-up your face and whether it should change just the brightness, complexion or both. This is a shot I did while watching a soccer match.

No, I am not wearing any make-up! No, my skin is not THAT smooth! Very nice, no? Loads of PP work removed! Amazing, no? I also did an experiment with a scar on my leg and though it didn’t exactly removed it, it made it look so much more ‘gentler’!

4. Noiseless!

I think this is quite a good example. This is shot @ ISO3200!

Not too bad right! Even when I zoomed in or crop it, it still looks pretty okay. Not as grainy as I thought it will be.

4. Smart Scene Mode

Let’s face it. We all get a little lazy at times. This is where the Smart Scene mode steps in. So far, it has yet to disappoint! It almost always select the right ‘mode’ to use and get the picture I want.

sunset in smart scene mode.

5. Scene Mode

Not too bad too! Some modes that I tried out.

And I think what I am most impressed with is the Night Scenery mode. NX10 was already low on battery when I shot this [lasted 2 full days of shoot!] –

6. Some normal stuff.

Brought NX10 home for a day and my brother pounced on it. He tried a few stuff, one of which is –

Auto White Balance

in warm spotlight (note: you can't fight the warm tone. the camera can only make it less warm.)

testing auto WB in Fluorescent light.

in Fluorescent.

He played around with it and gave me an hour’s lecture about the technical mojos of the camera. But let’s just say, at the end of his one-hr with the camera, he took back most of his initial words about the camera. That’s quite impressive because he doesn’t really like Samsung!

And he is rather impressed that photos can be shot as RAW.

7. Very sweet bokeh.

Have I said that yet? YES! Surprisingly at F6.3, it still produces a rather nice bokeh!

yummy ice cream in my tummy. shot in manual and forgot to change the WB.

8. the LCD screen is pretteh!

Apparently, it uses some AMOLED screen. But heck, being the semi-bimbo that I am, previewing the pictures on that screen is nice! Come to think of it…When I was shooting in bright sunlight, I didn’t have to shield the screen THAT much to view the pictures.

9. The buttons.

Okay, I am a little ecky when it comes to this. While the Canon G11 that has EVERYTHING on the surface (which I think is confusing and messy), the NX1o has them all hidden.

BUT! The buttons are not intuitive enough. Your zoom button is not next to your preview button. Pressing the FN button brings you to whole load of stuff. One button has like 3 pictures drawn on it and you are like, “..okay. how do i get to that? * searches*” Even after 2.5 days of using it, I am still having difficulty!!

Things I didn’t get to try.

50-200mm lens and the much talked about 30mm pancake lens!

I only shot with the 18-55mm 😦 Why like that!

Hmm. I think that’s about it? Yup! Erm..if I made any boo-boos, let me know! (: Like I said, not a technical mojo person and….this is my first time writing a review ok!!

P/S: Dear Samsung, can I try one of your compact camera too? One with dual-screen perhaps? 😀

Photos by my brother (:

For some reason, my brother absolutely refuse to a) add me as a friend or b) go shooting with me! So, on and off, I will sneak to his Facebook profile and look at the photos.
Very proud of him indeed (: While I was hogging the compact camera, he started learning about perspective, the technical mojos and shooting with his Sony Ericsson phone. After I bought my D300, he refused to use the compact and stuck with his camera phone.
And when he finally got his 500D, I offered to send him for class. But he refused! Passed him LR and now, he is a better photographer AND Lightroom user than I am.
Here are some of his photos that I really like!!

his caption: i'm not dead. just tired.

i have no idea where this is!

somewhere in the neighbourhood.

from his room window.

laundry of the day.

He has 2 albums on Facebook. One contains photos from the first few weeks he got his DSLR. Not as nice. But if you move on to the 2nd album, you can see he is getting better and better.

I think we can learn something from him. There we are complaining about running out of places to shoot. But really, we are just lazy. Look at my brother, he made everyday things look interesting. I have had my D300 for almost a month. Unemployed for 4 months. Plenty of time spent at home and I can’t even come up with half the pictures he has of our house and its surroundings!

So yups. Perhaps, we should go back to places we have shot before and rethink our perspective? (:

And to the brother: JIAYOU! and GOOD JOB (:

the only time he shot with me.

And I don’t know if you can see it, but head on over to his Facebook for more!

Photography 500D and Photography 500D II

This is how well I can multi-task or how short my attention span is. Depending on how you look at.

I can watch a show (US drama, reality TV), Facebook, Tweet, play games on iTouch and (80% of the time) process photos. Yups.

Do I still know what’s happening in the show while doing all these? Of course I do! I listen to the shows as I do the rest and jump right back to the window when I sense that something good is coming along !

When I was still studying, I could study, listen to music, sing and at the same time process thoughts in my head.

I guess that explains why when I seriously concentrates, I can complete a task pretty fast and pretty accurately.

Very few things can fully occupy me though. There’s maths and erm…maths? HAHAHAHAH!

what happened to filial piety?

I don’t know. When I was a little girl, I heard this story and it left an impression on me.

The story is about filial piety. Kind of. There’s this couple who was very mean. They threw away the straw mattress of their parents and make them sleep on the cold floors. And they only give their parents very little food. One day, they found the straw mattress they threw away in their son’s room. When asked why, the son said, “..I am getting ready for when you grow old so I can throw them away too..”

Details of the story are mixed. I remembered a pot but my dad said it was straw mattress. But yes, till today, I still remember this story and believe it’s a good story to tell the children.

We should always treat the elders with respect. No matter what they did, we should still be as nice to them as we can.

So when I came home at 12.30am last night to find the old lady in my neighbourhood sitting outside near the lift, I was shocked. Then when I found out from my mum that the old lady didn’t go home last night, I was appalled.

Apparently, this is not the first time it has happened. The old lady’s daughter-in-law has a habit of doing this. I mean, HEY! YOU! She’s mother-in-law! You already make her stay out the entire day, now you are depriving her of a place to sleep at night?

And what about the grandchildren? One is in poly, the other is Sec 4. SAY SOMETHING, GODDAMMNIT! I feel like slapping them.

I came home at 9+ today and found the old lady sitting at the coffee shop in the dark. I guess she’s locked out again 😦

What can I do? Apparently nothing. Because the parents has warned me to stay out of it. And well, if we call in the authorities, we might be making stuff worse for her.

How? 😦

I can only pray that things will get better for her. And I hope the stupid daughter-in-law will have her own ‘retribution’. We can start with constipation.

And no, I don’t care if I am being childish here. I am just so pissed now.
